“What to do when you’re back goes out?
Written by on August 4, 2010 in Chiropractic
”What should I do when my back goes out?”.
I answer this question every week. And I see nearly 300 cases of new low back pain every year.
According to statistics, chances are good that you will at some point in your life have a bout of severe low back pain. And when this happens, most people end up at the Emergency Room.
Thankfully, you have other options….First, don’t panic. Stop the activity that you are doing to prevent further damage. Do not try to finish the day out, or play one more hole… Ideal rest position is to lie down on your back with your legs elevated and knees bent. Now the question, Ice or Heat? Ice is the modality of choice for the first 72 hours of an acute injury, after 72 hours heat is preferred. Ice for 10 minutes on, then 5 minutes off for at least 4-6 cycles.
Next, you can call us! Don’t wait! We can make a proper diagonsis and begin treatment immediately to start reducing your pain levels. We have a multititude of ways to passively treat your intense pain including electrical stimulation and trigger point release. If needed, we can make the proper referral to other physicians or for MRI etc…We have set aside special times, everyday, to ensure that we can see you on the same day.
Most cases of acute low back pain can be treated conservatively with Chiropractic Care and Physical Therapy, and further intervention is not needed. Low back pain is never any fun, and can ruin your day. But next time this happens, make our Integrated office the first stop, and begin a proper healing process. We will have you back on your feet in no time at all.
Yours in Health,
Dr. Steve Lininger
